Zeaxanthin is a lipid soluble pigment component of lutein β- Dihydroxy derivatives of carotene. Zeaxanthin is abundant in plant tissues such as green vegetables, corn seeds, goji berries, and sour fruit, as well as some non photosynthetic bacteria.

Zeaxanthin is an oxygen-containing natural carotenoid that is isomeric with lutein and widely distributed in nature. Most of the zeaxanthin found in nature is an all trans isomer. Zeaxanthin is abundant in plant tissues such as green vegetables, corn seeds, goji berries, and sour fruit, as well as some non photosynthetic bacteria. Zeaxanthin cannot be synthesized in the human body and needs to be obtained through daily diet.
