Sinomenium Acutum Extract

Sinomenium Acutum Extract is an active ingredient extracted from the dried stems of Qingteng and Maoqingteng plants in the family Menispermaceae, with fallen leaves wrapping around the vines. The stem is woody, the branches are green,

smooth, and have vertical stripes. Leaves alternate, with petioles measuring 5-10 centimeters in length; The leaves arenearly circular or oval in shape, measuring 6-12 centimeters in length and 4-12 centimeters in width. The base is slightly

heart-shaped or nearly truncated, with the entire margin or 5-7 shallowly lobed. The upper part is smooth, green, andbthe lower part is pale white.

Sinomenium Acutum Extract

Sinomenine or Cocculine is an alkaloid found in the root of the climbing plant Sinomenium acutum which is native to Japanand China.

It is traditionally used in herbal medicine in these countries, as a treatment for rheumatism and arthritis.However its analgesic action against other kinds of pain is limited.

Sinomenine is a morphinan derivative, related to opioids . Its antirheumatic effects are thought to be primarily mediated via release of histamine, but other effects such as inhibition of prostaglandin, leukotriene and nitric oxide synthesis may also be involved.

Sinomenium Acutum Extract

Sinomenine HCL is now known to be effective in neuralgia and rheumatic diseases. That is a unique plant alkaloid, as it potently releases histamine in association with degranulation of mast cells in connective tissue, preferentially in the skin and joint capsules.

The released histamine is responsible for the pharmacological actions of sinomenine, such as vasodilation, increased vascular permeability, acceleration of the thoracic and peripheral lymph flow, contraction of smooth muscles, increased peristalsis of the

intestines, and stimulation of gastric acid secretion.
